FEAST DAY OF SAINT COLUMBA: On Sunday, June 9, we celebrate the Feast Day of our Parish Patron! This year since it falls on a Sunday, it outranks the Ordinary Time schedule of readings, so you may become confused if you follow the readings in the missal or online during Mass. Our readings are:
Genesis 8: 6-13
Ps 98: 1, 2-3, 3-4, 5-6
1 Corinthians 3: 16-23
John 1: 29-34
It is interesting to note that “Columba” is Latin for “dove”, and so we use a dove (in front of geometric stained glass blocks) for our parish logo.
Did you know? Catholics who attend Mass at their parish church on the feast day of its patron saint may be able to earn a plenary indulgence. A plenary indulgence is a remission of some or all of the temporal punishment for sins that have already been forgiven. To earn a plenary indulgence, the faithful must meet the following conditions:
Sacramentally confess their sins
Receive the Holy Eucharist
Pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff
Make a devout visit to a church or oratory
