Faith and Formation Ministries

We are a people searching for a richer, deeper relationship with Christ by living according to His Word.

St. Paul Street Evangelization

St. Paul Street Evangelization (SPSE) is a grassroots, non-profit organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking the Catholic Faith to the streets. Christ’s call to evangelize was made to every Catholic Christian, and the Second Vatican Council reiterated this need, urging each of the baptized to bring the Gospel, found fully in the Catholic Church, to a culture that has largely reverted to paganism. As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for people to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture.

Youth Activities Programs

Proposed Calendar and Tentative Plan for 2025
Director: Sister Suzanne

Dear Youth Group parents,

Our luck in trying for miniature golf has been unsuccessful due to the rain. Having received emails from parents on the possibility of gathering on June 22 at Hunter’s is also not successful because several are on vacation. I learned from some of the preteens and teens that June and July are vacation months. So no June dates but this is my new plan with lots of hope:

July 12 —SSCM Summer Festival from 10:30 to 4:30 — Choose time to come and help at the Kids Fun Zone, please.

July 20–Help with Cleanup after the Christmas in July Tea Party that Mrs. Elaine Luschas coordinates. Please come at 2:30. It will probably take a half hour and then we can play some games and have treats in our new Youth Group room until 4:00.Mrs. Luschas gave the money for our Christmas tree we decorated for the Tree Fest at the end of November in 2024. She is one of our best supporters and will appreciate our help.

August 3– Another try at Tee To Green miniature golf from 4:00 to 5:30

August 4 to 8– 9:00 to noon, Vacation Bible School volunteers, 7th grade to 12 grade are needed. Contact Mrs. Deanna McKinnon at finmgr@saintcolumbachurch .org or parish office 570-784-0801

August 10–Parish Picnic in the cafeteria and concert in the gym around noon (more info to follow)

August 17–Hunter’s Dairy Freeze for our scavenger hunt, volleyball, and other board games and Hunter’s food from 4:00 to 5:30

The Kids Peace Club has been blessed this year with the Youth Group joining them in being their guides and leaders.  I have new opportunities for both groups as they band together in the spirit of community.

Einstein said,” If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”  I, for one, believe fairytales spark imagination, help children develop a broader understanding of the world and its possibilities, which can lead to more creative and innovative thinking. Fairytales are not only for children but for all of us. Therefore I invite both groups to:

Men’s Group

Currently, our men’s group is meeting with the “That Man is You” format.

About

That Man is You! honestly addresses the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture, especially those relating to their roles as husbands and fathers. The program harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. It is particularly indebted to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and Pope John Paul II.

Over the course of three years, That Man is You! successively considers the three most important relationships in a man’s life: his relationship with God, his relationship with his spouse, and his relationship with his children.

That Man Is You Invites You To Attend
That Man is You, or “TMIY” is St. Columba’s Men’s Group
, using videos and small groups to enhance our faith.  This spring we will be delving into the death and resurrection of Jesus to enhance our faith. We meet weekly, Saturday mornings 6:30-7:45 a.m. in the downstairs Maximilian Kolbe room of the parish center, ending in early April.  We are always looking for a few more guys to make new friends while we learn about God.  We are asking for men to try just 2 weeks; any two weeks is fine.  Please feel free to call Jeff Cizewski @ 570-380-9489 with questions. We look forward to seeing YOU!

Rosary for Our Lady of Fatima Ministry

About

America Needs Fatima is a civic campaign to capture the heart and soul of America with the Message of Our Lady of Fatima. America Needs Fatima campaign is dedicated to bringing Our Lady’s request for prayer and penance with the promise of “Finally, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” Nationally, this is done by the home visitation program, in which a statue of Our Lady visits thousands of private homes yearly and by distributing millions of rosaries, devotional items, and calendars.

Here at St. Columba, we hold periodic Rosary rallies on church grounds to pray the Rosary in conjunction with others throughout the country, dedicating our prayers for our nation.

Marriage Mentor Program

About

Our goal is to prepare engaged couples spiritually for marriage in the church. We are affiliated with FOCCUS, a marriage preparation program used in our Diocese.

Program members meet directly with couples for the betterment of marriage as a sacrament. Members need a willingness to share and guide couples as part of their preparation for this sacrament.

This ministry has been active since 1999.
